It seems that this patch http://www.oliverthered.f2s.com/projects/wine/files/d3d9patch.2005-03-10.diff.bz2 enchances wine's DirectX Driver capabilities and should be a welcomed addition to everyone using wine for gaming or just about anything else that requires d9x support.

The author of the above mentioned patch is already actively working with the wine project to integrate his changes into wine.
