If I run "rc-status" as an unpriviledged user, I get: * Could not local current runlevel in /var/lib/init.d/softlevel * Assuming current runrevel is 'single' Runlevel: single ... no matter what runlevel I'm in. This works for other people, so I'm assuming that this is related to having "svcmount=yes" and "svcfstype=tmpfs". The real-world problem is that there appears to be no way for a user to determine whether a service is running or not: rc-status doesn't work (as above: If I attempt to query all services with "-a", everything is shown as "stopped") I can't look in /var/lib/init.d/started (no permissions - and if I did chmod it, the change would be lost after a reboot), and "/etc/init.d/* status" fails too (which I'm going to file another bug report on). Am I doing something wrong here, or is the svcmount option broken in this case? What is the canonical way to determine whether a service is running, if not root (and preferably avoiding "ps")
you neglected to provide `emerge info` like the bug report page told you to please post the output of `ls -Rl /var/lib/init.d/` as an attachment re-open when you've done these
