When I try to emerge -uDv world, kdelibs tries and fails to install kdelibs-3.3.2-r7. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge kdelibs 2. Watch it seg fault with the same error 3 times in a row 3. Profit?? (Ya, it's a bad /. joke) Actual Results: Got a seg fault error while emergeing Expected Results: updated kdelibs to 3.3.2-r7 The failure information is: Wconversion -Wchar-subscripts -Wall -W -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -DNDEBUG -DNO_DEBUG -O2 -O2 -mtune=k8 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -Wformat-security -Wmissing-format-attribute -fno-exceptions -fno-check-new -fno-common -DQT_CLEAN_NAMESPACE -DQT_NO_ASCII_CAST -DQT_NO_STL -DQT_NO_COMPAT -DQT_NO_TRANSLATION -o kio_uiserver -R /usr/kde/3.3/lib -R /usr/qt/3/lib -R /usr/lib64 -no-undefined -L/usr/lib64 -L/usr/qt/3/lib -L/usr/kde/3.3/lib kio_uiserver.la.o libkdeinit_kio_uiserver.la collect2: ld terminated with signal 11 [Segmentation fault] make[4]: *** [kio_uiserver] Error 1 make[4]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... make[4]: Leaving directory `/home/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.3.2-r7/work/kdelibs-3.3.2/kio/misc' make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.3.2-r7/work/kdelibs-3.3.2/kio/misc' make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.3.2-r7/work/kdelibs-3.3.2/kio' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.3.2-r7/work/kdelibs-3.3.2' make: *** [all] Error 2 !!! Emerging aspell and aspell-en appeares to have fixed whatever caused the seg fault. After emerging those two ebuilds, the kdelib emerged successfully.
I don't think that that was the reason of the problem as I cannot see the relationship between them. Probably it was an unreproducible random error caused by some hardware problems, overheating etc...
I'd agree if it hadn't occured three times in a row while other larger emerges completed successfully(glibc comes to mind). The only reason I installed aspell was I noticed it mentioned just after the config check.
