Simple removal of the relevant lines from package.mask would do fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I don't know if my comment fits well here, but with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r4, gamin-0.20 doesn't work correctly. Example : I have a file on my desktop (gnome) and if in a terminal I move that file away, the file doesn't disappear from my desktop. I unmasked gamin-0.26 and emerged it, and now it works just fine :-)
#1: Yes -- this is exactly the reason. The gentoo sources 2.6.10 series had inotify version < 0.18. Inotify 0.18 had an ABI/API change, which meant that everything which needed to use it had to be changed and version bumped. Gamin changed around 0.21-ish. That's why >=gamin-0.25 was hardmasked, since it would not work with the stable kernel. Now that the .11 series has reached stable, it contains an updated inotify patch, which now makes <=gamin-0.20 break. So this bug is just a small reminder for the gentoo devs that this needs to be resolved.
correct.. altered the mask to >=gamin-0.0.26-r5 which contains the patch to make gamin work with inotify-0.21 (heads up to dsd).
