Description Ludovico Poggioli 2005-03-17 04:22:45 UTC
The sentence is:
Once the emerge is complete, enable nVidia support in /etc/X11/XF86Config as per the nVidia-provided documentation.

I think it should be:
Once the emerge is complete, enable nVidia support in /etc/X11/xorg.conf as per the nVidia-provided documentation.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

With a little bash magic, it can be a lot smarter. Check if xorg.conf exists, point to the old file if it does not.
Comment 2 Ludovico Poggioli 2005-03-28 05:32:09 UTC
Yes, but we're talking about a new install so it will be hard to find something from XFree86.

In future please provide direct hyperlinks to the documentation concerned. While I agree that sentence probably wants rewording, I don't usually have time to scan all of the documentation to isolate it's location so I can reword and commit the change. In this case, I think what you're talking about is located in the AMD64 technotes here:

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/technotes.xml?part=2&chap=2

Above documentation has been changed appropriately.

I should also point out we have seperate documentation for the installation of nVidia drivers at the following location:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/nvidia-guide.xml

It covers the process adequately, and includes kernel configuration right through the changing your XF86Config or xorg.conf :o)
