I can't reproduce this problem. Chances are it's a local problem in your system, related to your docbook catalogs. What happens if you re-install 1.66.1 and try this again?
Version 1.66.1 breaks creating the "Table of Contents" of the svnbook (http://svn.red-bean.com/svnbook/trunk/src/en/book) as html/pdf/ps document. Using Version 1.65.1 I have no problem to create the docs. With version 1.66.1 in the "Table of Contents" not only the expected titles of each Chapter are shown but also the content of the chapter are partly printed.
@Leonardo Boshell: Did this now, and this time pango did compile. Untortunately this will not say much anymore, since I've meanwhile switched from 2.4.26 to 2.6.11 and had an "emerge -e system" with about 190 packages compiled. Among them anything with docbook, tex and all other commons suspects ....
