Description Jerome 2005-03-16 09:32:52 UTC
QEmu is a fast CPU emulator, it runs on a lot of platforms and can emulate/virtualise a lot of CPUs :
http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/

A related project gather hard disk images of free OS for QEmu :
http://www.freeoszoo.org/
This is intended to end user without technical skills who want to know free OS by running them in user space inside the QEmu sand box.

Could we not not provide a highly optimized Gentoo Linux disk image for QEmu ? I already wrote some scripts intended to generate a disk image for Bochs, a Pentium emulator.

This could be a good publicity for Gentoo Linux.

What exactly does this have to do with catalyst?
Comment 2 Jerome 2005-03-16 13:13:55 UTC
Since Catalyst generates live installation CD, I mean it could generate hard disk image.

Ahhh... OK ;]

Can't QEMU use ISO images?
Comment 4 Jerome 2005-03-17 10:03:47 UTC
no
Comment 5 Jerome 2005-03-23 13:07:42 UTC
Documentation did not tell anything about ISO.

I tried with Mandrake Linux 10.2RC1 ISO file. It works !

Maybe it could help you to build optimized disk image ?

You can boot the ISO image. There isn't much that can be done to "optimize" it, so I would say the support it already there.
