Description Stuart W. Finlayson 2005-03-12 23:26:29 UTC
I upgraded to nvidia-kernel-1.0.7167-r1, and when I try to startx the screen goes blank, like it's trying to run, but just stays blank. In addition, once the screen goes blank the keyboard stops responding, so I need to do a hard reboot.

I compared the /var/log/Xorg.0.log files that are generated using nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r4 (which works) and nvidia-kernel-1.0.7167-r1. Aside from the versions being different in the output, for the 1.0.7167 version the output dies just before "SetClientVersion: 0 8" and has a different oldVal1 value--for 1.0.6629 oldVal1 = 0x80010004, and for 1.0.7167 oldVal1 = 0x80010044.

Same here. This seems to be an issue with the 2.6.10 kernels - I upgraded to 2.6.11 and it works. This is on amd64 here, but obviously doesn't seem to be arch-specific
Comment 2 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-13 13:40:56 UTC
Stuart, can you also try a new 2.6.11 kernel?
Comment 3 Stuart W. Finlayson 2005-03-13 17:14:26 UTC
I just did `emerge sync` and upgraded to x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1 from x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0-r5, now media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.7167-r1 works using the 2.6.10 kernel.

Ok, great.
