In media-gfx/darktable-3.8.0-r3, everything worked fine, regarding selection of multiple images. Now, in media-gfx/darktable-3.8.1-r1, in lighttable selecting multiple images by ctrl-left click or shift-left click does not work. Ctrl-a (selection of all images) works. I checked that I can select multiple items in other applications like thunderbird or nemo. I am running Gentoo-Linux (kernel 5.15.41), window manager is fluxbox v1.3.7-r4. I also filed a bug report on github (darktable-org/darktable/issues/11927) which was closed as no one else seems to have this problem. A problem in the Gentoo package is suspected.
To further check the problem I installed darktable from source provided at https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/download/release-3.8.1/darktable-3.8.1.tar.xz Also in this install I can't select multiple images as mentioned above. So I wonder: If only I have the problem, which part of my Gentoo system is responsible for Ctrl-left click and Shift-left click behaviour?
darktable seems to have a flatpak available. Does that work?
I tried the flatpak. Doesn't work either for me.
This might sound unrelated but please bear with me. If you install and run media-sound/pasystray, are you able to toggle mute on default sink Alt+leftclicking on the tray icon?
(In reply to Marek Szuba from comment #4) > This might sound unrelated but please bear with me. If you install and run > media-sound/pasystray, are you able to toggle mute on default sink > Alt+leftclicking on the tray icon? As you suggested I installed pasystray. ALT-left click mutes audio playback. CTRL-left click opens pavucontrol.
Interesting. Some context: I've been having intermittent problems with various gtk3 applications failing to recognise "keyboard modifier + mouse click" for close to a year now, and while in most cases the problem would go away after a while, in case of media-sound/pasystray it never does once it has begun to appear. The curious thing is, I have yet to figure out the pattern behind what causes this problem to appear... Consider the following: * my personal workstation, running up-to-date "amd64" Gentoo - problem appeared some time last summer, still present * my work computer (whose only significant difference from my home machine is that it has an Intel rather than AMD CPU), whose OS and user files started out as a clone of my home machine in early 2020 and has since been kept up to date as an independent system - the problem has yet to appear * another work computer I sometimes use, running Ubuntu Focal - problem present And to make it even more interesting, I've just double-checked this on my personal workstation and darktable-3.8.1-r1 running on it has got no problems recognising Ctrl+lclick. Anyway, given that you see the problem in question also with your own builds and the Flatpak, I feel tempted to close this ticket as CANTFIX. Ideally you could follow this up with Gtk+ maintainers but given how little useful information I have been able to gather while attempting to debug my problems with pasystray, I am not very hopeful here :-/
This is a really curious case. Why does it work with darktable 3.8.0-r3, but with 3.8.1-r1 it does not? What is different, when installing the first and the last?
Sorry about the delay responding. Unfortunately, there really isn't much that I can do here.
