i can emerge whatever i want from the livecd environment, and my network card works fine with the forcedeth drivers. when i reboot into my own environment forcedeth loads fine and eth0 gets a dhcp adress fine..... but as soon as i try to emerge something the network card dies. someone else also had the problem but couldnt figure out why.... he was also using amd64 at the time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.modprobe forcedeth 2.emerge xorg-x11 3. Actual Results: network card stops working part way into download. can not restart eth0 without a reboot Expected Results: should have kept downloading
what kernel version are you using?
the kernel version was the latest stable amd64, 2.6.9r10 (maybe) anyway... i found the problem was happening with both eth0 and eth1...... eth1 was a gigabit realtech, so i doubt the problem was driver related as i initially thought. :\
can u please try the lastest kernel version available? that is gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r4...
