in the "Desktop" -> "Administration" selector there's no "Printer" entry which is actually a link to gnome-cups-manager. but gnome-cups-manager is installed and can be started.
iirc gnome-cups-manager never installed a .desktop file. I think this was just fixed the other day in http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53817 Either way this has nothing to do with gnome-applets as gnome-cups-manager is its own package.
I downloaded the gnome 2.10 live cd and thats why I actually realized it's not on my gentoo install
I think it's just not good enough to let people search for a feature like the printer config tool. how should a noob now that he has to run gnome-cups-manager in order to configure his printer inside gnome? I think the way the life cd does is, is the right way to do. (and yes, I know it's not a gnome-applets thing - I just didn't know where to put this thing to)
Like I said, the latest version includes a menu item.
but it is not there!
lanius: you install the .desktop file into /usr/share/control-center-2.0/capplets/ which is no longer used in gnome-2.10. Can you please install it to /usr/share/applications with the other .desktop files.
I can confirm that #6 solved the problem.
ok,moved
