I just wanted to add the 3Com cards to the list of those missing from the install CD for 1.4 RC1. I have the 3C905C and did not see the driver in the net drivers directory. 3Com is a popular brand of Ethernet cards and probably should have drivers included on the install CD. Other than that, I love Gentoo. Keep up the great work!!!
Isn't it compiled into the kernel instead of as a module?
Yes you are correct it is in the gentoo-sources kernel (I assume the others as well) but it is not on the install CD as a module, so during the install, you cannot get network access to get the portage tree or the kernel from the Internet.
boot install CD and get me ifconfig -a, IIRC drobbins compiled the driver into the kernel not as a module, so it shouldn't need to be loaded, it should just be there...

The NIC drivers in the kernel work fine.
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
