Description Tom Prado 2002-09-26 21:34:35 UTC
This ebuild provides the latest acpi kernel patch against the latest linux
kernel 2.4.20-preX line of releases. For people that have newer laptops, this
ebuild can provide the needed functionality to allow their laptops to work. I
use it on my Toshiba Satellite 5105-S607.

The portage tree I've been using for the ebuilds is sys-kernel/acpi-sources

I was told that the acpi patches would be merged into the gentoo-sources but
having a seperate ebuild would allow us to have the latest bleeding edge acpi
patch available too.

sys-kernel/acpi-sources/acpi-sources-2.4.20-r4.ebuild

This is the latest ebuild I've been using. It is for the 20020918 release of
the acpi patch patched against linux-2.4.20-pre7.

Comment 4 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-30 22:12:44 UTC
have you tested this functionality in my latest lolo-sources with
USE="acpi4linux" if it works there that'd be good, however I will also add an
acpi-sources based on this bug to portage after 1.4 is released.
Comment 5 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-30 22:23:35 UTC
why did you choose -r4?
Comment 6 Tom Prado 2002-10-01 07:30:47 UTC
The -r4 is leftover from the versions I've been maintaining:

2.4.18-r1 included acpi-20020611
2.4.18-r2 included acpi-20020709
2.4.18-r3 included acpi-20020726
2.4.20-r1 included kernel 2.4.20-pre4 and acpi-20020815
2.4.20-r2 included kernel 2.4.20-pre5 and acpi-20020829
2.4.20-r3 included kernel 2.4.20-pre5, acpi-20020829, and a toshiba laptop driver
2.4.20-r4 is this one...

Feel free to start the new ebuild at r1.

I've merged and am now building the latest lolo-sources. I'll let you know how
it's acpi support works for me.
Comment 7 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-10-01 07:50:03 UTC
Wow, looks like you've had some time to work out the kinks in this, if I
have time I may add it to the tree today.
Has the toshiba laptop support been merged at this point into mainline? or is
there another reason you dropped it?
Comment 8 Tom Prado 2002-10-01 07:58:02 UTC
Yes, the Toshiba Laptop support (Toshiba ACPI Extras) was merged into the
mainline ACPI patch as of the acpi-20020918 release.
