can I suggest someone packing up just a command-line version of unison, too?  the gui version is a gnome up, and has difficulties compiling, e.g., on amd64.  according to emerge it relies on at least 11 other packages.

the command line version on the other hand should compile more robustly.

You can buid the command-line only version with USE="-gtk -gtk2".
