Tracing child processes (-f) does not work in some cases. Steps to reproduce: ltrace -f -e getenv bash -i -c lsblk Output: failed to init breakpoints 7028 couldn't reinitialize process 7028 after exec double free or corruption (top) Aborted Note: It works without the -f parameter.
This should also go upstream. Unfortunately: https://gitlab.com/cespedes/ltrace/-/issues/8 Perhaps we have luck and other distributions have a patch already.
emerge --info would be useful too.
Please re-run ltrace with full debugging output and post the results here to see what actually fails. For me, the command you have posted works fine - even as an unprivileged user.

Created attachment 776768 [details] ltrace debug
Try as I might I simply cannot reproduce this on any of my Linux boxes, regardless of the distro or even the architecture. Seeing as searching the Web for mentions of ltrace reporting double free or corruption appears to suggest this is its way of indicating having failed to exec a subprocess correctly, I would suggest checking if any security rules or components on your system might get in the way - but that's all I've got, sorry.
