The latest Software Suspend 2 patch set (version 2.1.8 for kernel 2.6.11) cannot be applied agains gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r2. The first conflict occurs due to genpatches-2.6.11.02/4500_fbsplash_0.9.1-r2.patch, as it adds KERN_FBSPLASH=68" around line 135 in includ/linux/sysctl.h. swsusp2 tries to add "KERN_KDB=68" at the same position. Similar problems occur with 2.6.10 and swsup2 v2.1.7. Although not tested it is expected that swsusp2 will work with vanilla-sources-2.6.x. So I'd like to request to integrate Software Suspend 2 into gentoo-(dev-)sources-2.6.x. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r2 2. Download swsusp2 and try to apply it Actual Results: Patch error message: Hunk #1 FAILED at 135. 1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file linux/include/linux/sysctrl.h.rej
It's too experimental and we generally don't accept feature patches unless they are useful for livecd users. Please get this finished and accepted into Linus's tree then it will automatically be a part of our kernel.
I understand that carrying patches slows down the release cycle for gentoo-sources, so I won't push to have my swsusp2 work included. But for those who search the bug repo and find this bug, the following may be useful: http://starjuice.net/gentoo-swsusp2/ This is where I put my swsusp2 overlay ebuilds. I maintain these for myself, because I find swsusp2 invaluable, and have been since 2.6.8.

If you find this bug looking for an answer, you probably want suspend2-sources.
