Description FieldySnuts 2005-03-04 13:19:14 UTC
squid-2.5.STABLE9-patches-20050303 appears to change the default logging behavior of squid.

I upgraded from 2.5.8, and kept the same config. In this config, I had cache_access_log commented out, as it said the default was /var/log/squid/access.log .

Upon staring up 2.5.9, I noticed the access.log was not being updated. The proxy was working, clients could use it fine.

Further investigation via lsof | grep squid | grep log showed the access log was not being used by squid.

Uncommenting the cache_access_log configuration line, and pointing that at /var/log/squid/access.log , and restarting squid fixed things up.

I'm not sure if this is intended behavior or not, but a user should not have to track down what was going on like I did. The config says there was a default, but it appears this patch changes that default.

I tested this on two different systems, and got the same results.

You should use etc-update/dispatch-conf whenever a config file is modified by emerge. The default squid.conf set this variable by default, so this is not an issue.

For the record, custom log patch have been applied to this version, as requested in bug 83117.
