Description Tim Burrell 2005-03-04 13:18:39 UTC
Hi there, I've attached an ebuild for powermated v.0.3.5, which I am the author of.

powermated is a program that brings full support to Linux for the Griffin PowerMate USB dial. It can control any application in any manner desired, and can blink the PowerMate's LED according to a configurable monitor path such as XMMS/BMP sound output, CPU Usage, System Volume, etc. For more information please see the projects web site at http://powermated.sourceforge.net.

I suggest that the application be categorized under sys-apps/powermated, however wherever the gentoo team deems appropriate is fine with me.

Also of note is that powermated requires x11, and optionally depends on XMMS, BMP, and XOSD. I have included full support for the appropriate USE flags with this ebuild, and have tested it on my development machine. It appears to work well.

One final word of mention is that I have also written a Gentoo HOWTO on getting the PowerMate to work with Gentoo (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Griffin_PowerMate_with_UDEV_and_Kernel_2.6.x) and will update it again once powermated is accepted into the portage repo. I also made the ebuild spit out an informational message after it is done installing informing the user that help is available in getting the PowerMate to work correctly under Linux and where to go to do that (ie for enabling the proper kernel modules, etc).

Thanks,

Tim.

powermated-0.3.5.ebuild (New Package)

I have tested the ebuild thoroughly on my development machine, but this is my
first ebuild, so I would appreciate if someone could look it over and let me
know if I've done it all correctly.

I'd like to second this for inclusion. Sweet program, adds really good support to linux for powermate.

Oh and thanks for the program and for the ebuild Tim! great work!

Hmm... I forgot I submitted this. I've actually got a new project:
http://gizmod.sf.net that includes all the functionality of powermated and a lot
more. There's a Gentoo init script on the website, but no ebuild.

Fixed Powermated ebuild

You forgot to add xosd as a dependancy. Here's a fixed ebuild.

see http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134016 for gizmod-2.3

so if gizmod is a successor of powermated, than we can close this one (with WONTFIX (*) )?

Cheers,
Przemek

(*) plz, do not close with FIXED, if ebuild (and powermated) want make it into portage!

(this is an automated message based on filtering criteria that matched this bug)
'EBUILD' is in the KEYWORDS which should mean that there is a ebuild attached
to this bug.
This bug is assigned to maintainer-wanted which means that it is not in the
main tree.

Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild
submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely
manner. There are simply too many new packages.

Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The
sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to
commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry
into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this
and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =)

Because this is a mass message, we are also asking you to be patient with us.
We anticipate a large number of requests in a short time.

Thanks,
On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team,
Jeremy.
