Description Patrick ALLAERT 2005-03-03 04:26:29 UTC
dnetc crash with the following output when trying to resolve the hostname of a server:

[Mar 03 12:17:41 UTC] Attempting to resolve 'euro.v29.distributed.net' .../etc/host.conf: line 24: bad command `mdns off

dnetc crash with the following output when trying to resolve the hostname of a server:

[Mar 03 12:17:41 UTC] Attempting to resolve 'euro.v29.distributed.net' .../etc/host.conf: line 24: bad command `mdns off´
Segmentation fault

Here, the output of /var/log/everything/current:

Mar 3 13:17:41 [kernel] dnetc[14291]: segfault at 0000000000000000 rip 0000000000000000 rsp 0000007fbfffeaf8 error 14

Changing mdns to 'on' or commenting out the line in /etc/host.conf does not solve the problem!

Used version, `emerge --info` please.
Comment 3 Patrick ALLAERT 2005-04-28 12:17:49 UTC
Sorry for replying so late...

my dnetc version was:
dnetc v2.9007-486-CFR-03110904 for Linux (Linux 2.6.11-gentoo-r6)

The bug seem to (almost) disappear after emerging:

app-misc/dnetc-2.9009.494

Here is the output with the last version:
====================
distributed.net client for Linux Copyright 1997-2004, distributed.net
Please visit http://www.distributed.net/ for up-to-date contest information.

dnetc v2.9009-494-CFR-04090920 for Linux (Linux 2.6.11-gentoo-r6).
Please provide the *entire* version descriptor when submitting bug reports.

The message ".../etc/host.conf: line 24: bad command `mdns off'"
is still there when dnetc try to resolve the name, but the client does not crash anymore after!

Here is my emerge --info:

Re-assign.
Comment 5 Konstantin Arkhipov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-03 14:48:35 UTC
is it still actual and/or reproducible?
Comment 6 Patrick ALLAERT 2006-01-04 14:45:39 UTC
At the time I reported this bug: it happened everytime. Using a very basic gentoo install with very common USE flags. I cannot reproduce this as I am now on another arch (x86_64) and I don't use dnetc anymore.
For me you can close this one...
Comment 7 Konstantin Arkhipov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-04 14:51:42 UTC
ok, closing.
