Description Lars Strojny 2005-03-02 07:42:26 UTC
>>> Completed installing mdadm-1.9.0-r1 into /var/tmp/portage/mdadm-1.9.0-r1/image/

* checking 10 files for package collisions
existing file /lib/rcscripts/addons/raid-start.sh is not owned by this package
* spent 0.0449640750885 seconds checking for file collisions
* This package is blocked because it wants to overwrite
* files belonging to other packages (see messages above).
* If you have no clue what this is all about report it
* as a bug for this package on http://bugs.gentoo.org

package sys-fs/mdadm-1.9.0-r1 NOT merged

No package files given... Grabbing a set.

# qpkg -f /lib/rcscripts/addons/raid-start.sh
sys-fs/raidtools *

Maybe a package metaraid would be a solution.

it's a feature

really there's no reason for you to install both raidtools and mdadm at the sametime, so you could simply unmerge one :P
Comment 2 Lars Strojny 2005-03-02 10:44:26 UTC
I don't need it really. It was just for testing-issues. But: if I should not install both, they should block one another.
Comment 3 Lars Strojny 2005-03-02 10:46:20 UTC
Another thought: if I will tranfer my raid from raidtools to mdadm it would be useful to have both installed, is it?
Comment 4 sf 2005-05-24 02:34:01 UTC
The bug still exists for sys-fs/mdadm-1.9.0-r1 and sys-fs/raidtools-1.00.3-r5.
Anybody working on a fix?
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-05-24 06:25:16 UTC
nope
Comment 6 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-24 06:29:13 UTC
As a user of many raid systems, I'd advocate deprecating raidtools in favor of
mdadm.
Comment 7 Lars Strojny 2005-05-24 06:52:50 UTC
It's not the question to mark one as deprecated but to solute the colission.
Maybe just create a package raid-base and let mdadm and raidtools
depend on that. It's users choice, which package to use. We could and I think
also should not force them.
Comment 8 Lars Strojny 2005-06-03 09:02:33 UTC
Whats about introducing raid-base or something like this? Don't you think this
would be useful?
@SpanKY: If I commit an enhancement, would it be accepted?
Comment 9 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-06-03 10:05:15 UTC
no, such a package would not be acceptable at this time

not sure what you mean by 'an enhancement'
Comment 10 Sandro Bonazzola (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-05-22 13:11:07 UTC
I don't know if someone consider this an enhancement, but now there are two file that collides.

* checking 12 files for package collisions
existing file /lib64/rcscripts/addons/raid-stop.sh is not owned by this package
existing file /lib64/rcscripts/addons/raid-start.sh is not owned by this package
* spent 0.000592947006226 seconds checking for file collisions
* This package is blocked because it wants to overwrite
* files belonging to other packages (see messages above).
* If you have no clue what this is all about report it
* as a bug for this package on http://bugs.gentoo.org
Comment 11 Lars Strojny 2006-05-23 01:13:09 UTC
This bugs is quite annoying. If two packages should not be installed parallel, they should block each other, if they could be installed parallel, you should be able to install both without QA warnings.
Comment 12 Lars Strojny 2006-09-11 01:52:01 UTC
Anything new here?
Comment 13 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-11-10 23:42:03 UTC
nope
