Description John Helmert III archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2022-03-27 00:09:37 UTC
I'd like to disband the Auditing project. There's not really any use in maintaining a whole project for this, especially when there's no members in Auditing which aren't in the root Security project. For all purposes, the root Security project will suffice. Jason consents (from #gentoo-security):

2022-03-24 09:25:33 @ajak zx2c4: while you're here, do you have any problem dissolving the audit project? i don't see any use in the differentiation
2022-03-24 09:26:26 @zx2c4 i liked being the "head" of something, but i guess there's not that much of a poitn
2022-03-24 09:26:59 @zx2c4 the thing is i dont even know if im officially part of the security project anymore
2022-03-24 09:27:09 @zx2c4 and i would like to get results on audit reports and stuff
2022-03-24 09:27:16 @ajak you are; you're on the project page
2022-03-24 09:27:20 @zx2c4 oh okay
2022-03-24 09:27:27 @ajak no idea what 'audit reports' you might be referring to
2022-03-24 09:27:51 @zx2c4 like somebody finds a bunch of maybe vulns in gentoo code and needs some technical chops to understnd them
2022-03-24 09:28:17 @ajak i suppose the sane thing to do would be to contact security@
2022-03-24 09:28:21 @ajak but i've never heard of that happening
2022-03-24 09:28:21 @zx2c4 but anyway, do what you thinks best. i refuse to GLSA but i would like to stay in the gentoo security fold in some official capacity
2022-03-24 09:29:02 @ajak thanks
2022-03-24 09:29:35 @ajak i just figure it's organizationally simpler since there's not really anybody doing audit stuff that couldn't also be covered by the root security project

So, we need to:

- Reassign bugs away from security-audit@ to security@
- Change the default assignee of the "Auditing" component to security@
- Remove the mail alias, though I'd be happy with it as an alias for security@ for a while.
- Remove the project page. For history's sake I'd like it to be kept under the security namespace, rather than as its own namespace's root page.
- Anything else?

Infra, can you handle the alias and the "Auditing" assignee and the alias?

Done, except for this bug.

Change the default assignee of the "Auditing" component to security@ - DONE.
Disable Auditing component - DONE
Change mail alias destination: security-audit@ -> security@ - DONE

maffblaster:
as the wiki person, please ARCHIVE the Auditing project page.
Comment 3 Matthew Marchese Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2022-04-18 23:35:15 UTC
Generally what I like to see happen for project pages is to move them into the main namespace (so they don't pull anymore into projects.xml used by www.g.o) and mark them with the archive template (for archive purposes).

Project has been moved here: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Auditing_(project_archive)

If anyone has a better name for it, feel free to call it something different.

Fine by me, thanks!

All done!
