Description qsmodo 2022-03-23 13:41:24 UTC
Today I emerged gentoo-kernel and wanted to estimate how much time I'd still have to wait. So I ran

  $ qlop -r
  2022-03-23T09:47:36 >>> sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel... (9 of 13) ETA: 1′31″

Then, a couple of minutes later, I ran it again, and to my surprise:

  $ qlop -r
  2022-03-23T09:47:36 >>> sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel... (9 of 13) ETA: 30′12″

Reproducible: Didn't try

Comment 1 qsmodo 2022-03-23 13:43:57 UTC
(Sorry, hit the send button thinking of a preview button.)

The thing is, the ETA resets even though the package is still compiling. I'd expect it to show something like "ETA was exceeded".
Comment 2 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2022-03-24 07:36:01 UTC
-v should show you "(longest run)" and "(average run)" to indicate which prognosis it is basing the ETA on.

What happens in your case is most likely it switching from average to longest because it obviously won't make it within the average time.

There's suggestions to show this graphically with some ascii-art so the jump doesn't come as a surprise.
