Is it ok to stabilize? 4.17.0 contains some fixes that would be useful to have in stable (bug 829859 was caused by various macros dropped in 4.17.0).
https://packages.gentoo.org/maintainer/xfce@gentoo.org/stabilization mentions few more 4.17.* stable candidates, we could stable those too if okay.

We generally don't stabilize the development branch.  Users have complained about that before.

Ah I wasn't aware that 4.17. is a development branch. Given the other bug is resolved, feel free to close this one if you don't wish to proceed.
