Currently, the knoppix derivatives of the hardware detection tools Genkernel uses does not allow for detection of keymaps. Currently, to solve this problem, users are prompted to make a selection, in the linuxrc placed in the initrd's. This allows for proper keymaps in the console. To allow for integration with mkxf86config, another knoppix tool, used by some users, and in the up-and-coming X based live CD, the following patch takes the same information from the users response and writes it to /etc/sysconfig/keyboard, the location expected by mkxf86config. This allows mkxf86config to select the proper keymap. http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.hardened/1450 for more information.
Created attachment 52146 [details, diff] genkernel-kmap.patch Patch against 3.1.0k
Hey Tim, Eric... how about we throw this into genkernel and roll a new tarball... let's see if we can squash out a few more of these bugs...
In 3.1.5; closing bug.
Well, kinda... I'll come up with a new patch shortly, but basically, this doesn't work right. It outputs to the initrd's /etc/sysconfig/keyboard and isn't ever transferred over to the /newroot/etc/sysconfig/keyboard, so it doesn't actually *do* anything useful.
ok... so I never made a patch, sue me... Did this ever get updated/fixed in genkernel?
Should be fine in 3.2.0_preX+.
