Description Fyodor Ustinov 2005-02-24 13:46:28 UTC
Motherboard GA-K8NS-939 with integrated network adapter.

Info from /proc/pci :
  Bus 2, device 11, function 0:
Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Yukon Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Adapter (rev 19).
      IRQ 10.
      Master Capable. Latency=64. Min Gnt=23.Max Lat=31.
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xf3000000 [0xf3003fff].
      I/O at 0xa400 [0xa4ff].

sk98 driver properly detect controller:
home proc # ifconfig eth1
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0F:EA:78:41:28
          inet addr:192.168.3.3 Bcast:192.168.3.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::20f:eaff:fe78:4128/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
          Interrupt:10 Memory:f3000000-0

Now, ping outside:
home proc # ping 192.168.3.1
PING 192.168.3.1 (192.168.3.1) 56(84) bytes of data.

From 192.168.3.3 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.3.3 icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.3.3 icmp_seq=6 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.3.3 icmp_seq=7 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.3.3 icmp_seq=8 Destination Host Unreachable

--- 192.168.3.1 ping statistics ---
8 packets transmitted, 0 received, +6 errors, 100% packet loss, time 6999ms
, pipe 3

Now look to ifconfig again:

home proc # ifconfig eth1
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0F:EA:78:41:28
          inet addr:192.168.3.3 Bcast:192.168.3.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::20f:eaff:fe78:4128/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
          Interrupt:10 Memory:f3000000-0

No one packet is really going outside (tx=0, tx bytes = 0).

Is this a gigabit adapter?
Comment 2 Fyodor Ustinov 2005-02-24 22:41:01 UTC
Yes.

Comment 3 Fyodor Ustinov 2005-02-27 12:02:12 UTC
BTW, I'm check 32 bit version of the kernel from 2004.3 Live CD. Also not work.
Comment 4 Fyodor Ustinov 2005-03-04 08:45:39 UTC
Hmm, people, i'm afraid of this silence. May be i can help?
Comment 5 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-04 08:50:38 UTC
Does it work in 2.6.11?
Does it work on other livecds like knoppix/kanotix/gnoppix?
Comment 6 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-04 09:05:15 UTC
Sorry, was waiting for 2.6.11 to appear. Then I realised that 2.6.11 didn't solve the issue out of the box. Anyway, I added gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r1 to portage yesterday, which contains the new skge driver. Please use that instead of sk98lin. I'm 99% sure this should make it work. Let us know how you get on.
Comment 7 Fyodor Ustinov 2005-03-04 10:39:07 UTC
gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r1 & skge solve my problem. Thanks a lot!
