When start root-tail on KDE 3.2, I didn't see anything.
I suppose root-tail didn't correctly find root window. I think so, because of
when I close KDE, during one secode when KDE closed, but Xorg has finished
his work yet, I see a peace of /var/log/message

In cvs, however it's package.mask'd for a very short period just so I can get a friend or two of mine that are KDE users to test it.
