This probably isn't a bug, but it has me going crazy. I did an update world and checked etc-update (but not closely enough). Ever after I cannot exit. I run blackbox and when I hit exit it goes off into limbo. The system is dead from that point on. When I start the system everything is fine. I get the login screen and all my programs work correctly. I tried going into Failsafe Gnome, but exit does the same thing. Oddly enough, it sometimes returns me to the login screen and fails when I try to relog in. Some setting is wrong, but I have no idea which one. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Try to exit back to the login screen. 2. 3. Actual Results: System hangs with the blank screen - no mouse. Expected Results: I should go to the normal login screen.
Can you attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log from a failed attempt (if you restart X, the old one gets moved to Xorg.0.log.old. Might be worth attaching /etc/X11/xorg.conf too. Also, which version of xorg-x11? Please reopen when you supply the info.

> Also, which version of xorg-x11? Still waiting ... =) Looks like some revision of 6.8.0, however -- please try 6.8.2.
I am using xorg-xll 6.8.0-r4. I will try 6.8.2
I have now installed xorg 6.8.2. It works fine, but I still can't exit. I get the same result - the system hangs with no mouse pointer and a black screen.
Well, I think I figured out what's going on! I forgot to mention one 'minor' detail. I'm running linux kernel 2.6.9. When I go back to 2.6.5, I'm able to exit. The real problem is with the new kerel, which still does not allow for an exit, but by going back to the 'old' kernel, everything seems to be fine. Sorry I didn't figure this out sooner.
Being stuck on an old kernel isn't a fix
Can you reproduce this on 2.6.11?
Please reopen when you test the latest kernel.
