Description Marco Steinacher 2005-02-21 07:58:35 UTC
Hi

I developed an extension of The Webalizer (http://www.mrunix.net/webalizer/) for the ISP I'm working for, called 'webalizer-asn', that supports AS number (Autonomous System Number) lookups to generate additional statistics based on the origin of the hosts that have visited a website. (Please see http://www.init7.net/webalizer_asn/ for details.)

I attached the ebuild in case you want to add it to portage. I suggest app-admin/webalizer-asn.

Marco

Any reason why can't you just make this merged upstream? Seriously a lot less trouble than maintaining a fork.

I agree that including the extension in upstream would be the best solution. However, there has been no update of the upstream code since more then five years and AFAIK there are no news about further development.

Currently I'm working together with the maintainer of the webalizer Debian package on getting the extension in the official Debian archive (as part of the existing webalizer package). In the Debian package, a couple of patches have accumulated and it would be nice to get them into the upstream version. If that's possible the extension would automatically become available in Gentoo. Otherwise, it eventually may be included as a patch in the webalizer ebuild, as we are doing now for the Debian package.

Thanks for reply... Current webalizer maintainer is CCed here, so maybe he can make something useful out of this :) I just don't think that maintaining both side-by-side would have any significant benefits.
