Just wait a day or two if it's a package with an active maintainer. The Blender maintainer in Gentoo is also an upstream developer so in this case unlikely to beat them. But for other packages or if it seems like there's a delay, it shojld be fine

For example I missed a lot of the minor releases for Blender because I usually only use the live ebuild myself for testing and for development. So even if I work on developing Blender, I missed a lot of the LTS point releases. (So the versions in portage was not up to date).
