When I intall using Gentoo 2005.0 (also happens with 2004.3 w/ kernel 2.6), devfsd is not in the dependency list, so it is not extracted. If it is not manually added, reboot fails. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Follow the hadbook to install Gentoo with kernel 2.6 Actual Results: Reboot Fails Expected Results: Reboot normal
devfsd should *not* be installed with 2005.0 (which you shouldn't be using anyway) as we are switching to udev As for 2004.3, if you are using a 2004.3 profile, then it should default to having virtual/dev-manager in "system", as all profiles do (it is defined in "base", which all profiles inherit) Have you checked to see if udev was installed instead?
Yes, udev is in the dependency and was installed. However, this does not allow the system to boot up properly. The init sequence asks for devfsd and does not find it .
Oops, my fault configuring devfs in the kernel. Sorry for the wrong bug post.
