Description Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-23 16:26:53 UTC
is it possible to make a virtual inetd package ?
at this time, netkit-base (inetd) and xinetd should be this virtual inetd

then, qpopper could be even installed with netkit-base only and doesn't require
xinetd

hmm, i dont really have much bad to say about it.

add packages, ideas, items to this bug, so we can keep track of them, and
organize the effort accordingly.

i dont want to do some half-baked butcher job of it ;)

Marty,

Make me a list please of stuff which depends on xinetd, inetd, or netkit blah so that we can test out making a virtual/inetd please

thanks

Donny, ok netkit-base and xinetd are now both providing virtual/inetd. I recall that you had mentioned a third package which could. But I don't recall which of the three you recommended as being the default... Enlighten me, please?

the virtuals are created -- please check that packages which can use them do use them
Comment 6 Donny Davies (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-27 14:31:57 UTC
hi seemant, ucspi-tcp is DJB's superserver, its usually used in conjunction
with his deamontools programs.

so ucspi-tcp could provide the virtual/inetd as well...

qpopper and ftpd are done

here's the small list
glftpd
vsftpd
vimap
ltsp-core
leafnode

any ideas ?
Comment 8 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-11 07:38:50 UTC
guys how about the packages in comment #7 ?
Comment 9 Andres Toomsalu 2003-07-11 07:41:03 UTC
ok with ltsp-core
Comment 10 Andres Toomsalu 2003-07-11 07:43:22 UTC
I ment that will do as soon as possible...
Comment 11 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2003-07-11 08:17:37 UTC
leave glftpd alone ... it highly recommends not using inetd and i wont support it ;)
Comment 12 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-09 13:41:41 UTC
xinetd is the better solution.
closing with all fixes done till yet
