If you emerge crossover-office 4.1 without ithreads turned on, it prints out a couple of error messages to the console, but the installer finishes fine. However, virtually nothing subsequently works (it won't successfully download any packages, nor will it install them, even if they're already downloaded). This error is documented by the crossover team at the URL supplied. I would suggest that the ebuild should either fail if ithreads is not on, or at least warn that you should expect it not to work. To verify this, emerge perl without ithreads turned on, install crossover office, try installing DCOM95 (something simple and free)
