Created attachment 755346 [details] The build log. Expected Behavior: 1. Launch a fresh installed GnuCash, it should display a splash screen and today's tip. 2. Click Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Enable horizontal gird lines on table displays, the setting should be saved after GnuCash is closed. Actual Behavior: 1. There is no splash nor today's tip being displayed. 2. The preferences will not be stored. (There will be no ~/.config/dconf being generated.) Steps to reproduce: 1. emerge =app-office/gnucash-4.8 2. Launch gnucash --debug through command-line 3. Change any preference under Edit -> Preferences 4. Close GnuCash 5. Launch gnucash again, the preferences is not saved. Some observation: 1. This only happens if I emerge =app-office/gnucash-4.8, other versions works fine. 2. This only happens if I install gnucash from portage. If I downloaded the 4.8 source code from GnuCash and built it and install it to $HOME/opt, everything works correctly. 3. The gnucash trace file shows 'WARN <gnc.app-utils.gsettings> [gnc_gsettings_get_settings_ptr()] Ignoring attempt to access unknown gsettings schema org.gnucash.GnuCash.general' 4. The ~/.config/dconf is not generated when it should be.

Created attachment 755354 [details] Steps I try to solve / investigate this problem. Summary: 1. $XDG_DATA_DIRS is correctly set to /usr/local/share:/usr/share 2. gsettings schema org.gnucash.GnuCash.general do exist when I use the command `gsettings list-keys org.gnucash.GnuCash.general` 3.
Hi, I found this only happens when I installed some software that also use gsettings and install it to /usr/local, and only with GnuCash 4.8. So here is the actual steps to reproduce: 1. Download and install https://github.com/regolith-linux/remontoire into /usr/linux 2. emerge =app-office/gnucash-4.8 Some additional information: 1. In the original additional information, I say "This only happens if I install gnucash from portage". This is not true, if I build and install GnuCash into /usr myself, it happens exactly the same thing. Workaround: 1. My original env variable shows XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/local/share:/usr/share, a simple export XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share:/usr/local/share did the trick, everything back to normal. Since this involved 3rd party software I built my self and also could be solved by a simple env variable change. I'm not sure if this should be classified as Gentoo bug, because it should not affect user that only install package from portage. I'll left developers to decide if this bug should be closed.
