In my setup it built, but then,

sgala@marlow ~ $ valgrind --tool=memcheck ls -l
Executable range 0x10000000-0x10204538 is outside the
acceptable range 0x70000000-0x7ffff000
valgrind: failed to load /usr/lib/valgrind/stage2: Cannot allocate memory
sgala@marlow ~ $ valgrind --help
Executable range 0x10000000-0x10204538 is outside the
acceptable range 0x70000000-0x7ffff000

Dennis, a fix for this will be in cvs in an hour or so after which I will close
this report.

Santiago, please open a separate bug report, because what you are reporting is a
completely different problem. When you do, please include the output from emerge
--info and let me know if you are using PaX.

Thank you for your really quick fix!
Valgrind works well now.
