There were a few bugs open about this before, and it is supposed to be working (as far as I understand) with gdesklets-core 0.31 and up + gnome-python-2.6. I'm using gdesklets since long ago and never had this working correctly. My current setup has gdesklets-core-0.33.1 and gnome-python-2.6.1 and when I log out while gdesklets are running, it won't automatically start it up on login.
By the way, it happens with the ebuild from bugzilla to gdesklets-0.34 too.
If I understand what you're reporting correctly, this is a bug in gDesklets (see http://gnomesupport.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9065#46349) and is being worked on. With the official ebuild, if this bug being removed is just a simple patch, it will probably be included (we have to investigate it some more). Until then, you will have to try `gdesklets restart` or `gdesklets stop` and then shutting down Gnome.
Is this still happening with the latest version (0.34.3)?
It's actually even worse in 0.34.3. for me the last version did not save the gnome-session at all. This version saves the session, and starts automatically, but only the daemon starts - and the desklets don't show up.
Same here. Often the desklets still swaps places also if I don't manually closes gdesklets before logout. ...but I guess it is still the same upstream bug.
It works for me. Look at the following HOWTO (in Spanish): http://blogdrake.net/node/2826
Look the last message (with the gnome foot as avatar) from: http://blogdrake.net/node/2826
Reopen if you can reproduce w/ gnome-extra/gdesklets-core-0.35.4; thanks.
