Description billylustig 2021-11-15 17:29:09 UTC
after successfully installing gentoo in my x41 Thinkpad I though It would be nice to have a desktop environment. I did consider that while configuring the kernel.

when trying to install:

'emerge --ask x11-base/xorg-server'

I run into an error happening when installing

'spidermonkey-78.14.0:gentoo'

after looking into

'/var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/spidermonkey-78.14.0/temp/build.log'

I find what appears to be the real cause behind the problem.

'Error: Don't know how to translate i486-pc-linux-gnu for rust'

I wonder:

1.- Is there a way to influence the value of the flag: i486-pc-linux-gnu, so it matches something that rust is available for?

2.- Are there any workarounds to solve this?

Thank you for the report. We need to have all information at hand before ticket assignment. Please provide
* the complete build.log as attachment and
* paste the emerge info
as described on https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Attach_the_logs_to_the_bug_ticket

We can not help you efficiently via bug tracker. The bug tracker aims rather on specific problems in .ebuilds and less on individual systems.

I have had very good experience on the gentoo IRC [1] with questions like this. Of course there are also forums and mailing lists [2,3].
I hope you understand, that I will close the bug here therefore and wish you good luck on one of the mentioned channels [4].
Please reopen the ticket in order to provide an indication for an specific error in an ebuild or any gentoo related product.
