Description Alexander Hsia 2005-02-16 14:57:37 UTC
scilab-3.0 starts up but either immediately exits or comes up showing the following error messages in its console

                  Copyright (c) 1989-2004
              Consortium Scilab (INRIA, ENPC)
        -------------------------------------------
shade : malloc No more Place
shade : malloc No more Place
	if with_tk() then
              !--error 4
undefined variable : with_tk
at line 11 of exec file called by :
exec('SCI/scilab.quit',-1);quit;

Secondly, the toolbar/menu under the window titlebar is blank.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="atlas gtk gtk2 tcltk" emerge scilab
2. Run scilab
3.
Actual Results:
Immediate exit or console with above aberrant behavior

Expected Results:
Run as normal.

If I instead do a USE="-gtk atlas gtk2 tcltk" emerge scilab, I get a scilab that
runs fine but uses an older (tcltk?) widget set rather than the gtk2 widget set.

Comment 1 Gregorio Guidi (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-02 09:25:04 UTC
Can you try with scilab-3.0-r1?
Comment 2 Alexander Hsia 2005-03-05 11:36:47 UTC
I tried out scilab-3.0-r1 and still get this problem on both my athlon-mp at work and my pentium-m laptop at home. No toolbar icons, and the shade malloc errors in the scilab window on startup.
Comment 3 Gustavo Ribeiro Alves 2005-04-27 22:08:19 UTC
I can confirm this bug.
Comment 4 Olivier Fisette (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-20 17:47:09 UTC
I could not reproduce. (I always get tcl/tk widgets even if I compile with
"gtk" and "gtk2" USE flags...) Could you try version 3.1.1 (in Portage) and
tell us how it behaves for you?
Comment 5 Pedro Sousa 2006-02-10 08:40:12 UTC
This continues in the last scilab package scilab-3.1.1-r3.

The only USE flag that I set was the gtk.
Comment 6 Pedro Sousa 2006-02-10 10:08:37 UTC
According to Scilab's site, GTK+ is not officially supported. Recompiling it with

sci-mathematics/scilab Xaw3d -gtk +tcltk

in /etc/portage/package.use solved the problem.
Comment 7 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-21 08:15:50 UTC
Please reopen if this remains an issue with scilab-4.
