sys-boot/os-prober cannot be emerged because the upstream Debian servers do not offer the file any more. Portage goes through dozens of Debian mirrors and all return error 404. 

Oddly enough, version 1.77 and 1.79 are available on the Debian mirrors, e.g. here: http://ftp2.cn.debian.org/debian/pool/main/o/os-prober/

It can be emerged as long as you have a working GENTOO_MIRRORS setting.

I'm not sure it's worth our trouble to mirror it elsewhere, since we'll stabilize 1.79 soon enough and this ebuild will go away.

Thank you for looking into this. There seems to be an issue with the "TDS Internet Services" Gentoo mirror. Emerge first tries to pull it from there, but gets an error 403 and then switches to the Debian mirrors.
