Description Karol Krizka 2005-02-14 17:59:20 UTC
I have emerged xorg-x11 and it dosn't start, but instead crashes without any (EE) messages. The reason claims to be "Caught signal 11". I am using the 2.6.10-gentoo-r7 with only the alps patch. I see the nvidia splash when I do startx, but then it crashes. Also chaning the driver to nv dosn't work any better. I have attached my xorg log and xorg.conf

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.startx
2.wait
3.see crash

Actual Results:
I see the nvidia splash screen and then it crashes with "Caught signal 11"

Expected Results:
X should have started normaly with KDE.

Attached as emerge.info becuase it is quite hard to copy and paste in console
because gpm only wants to work with my touchbad and that only slowly.

Couple of ideas here:

1) Try vesa and/or vga drivers.

2) Rebuild xorg w/ USE=dlloader, and debug it in gdb. You won't be able to use the nvidia binary driver in this state without relinking it.

If you search on the xorg@freedesktop.org list for a post by Adam Jackson, you can find appropriate one-liners for relinking the nvidia drivers that may or may not work.

I actually prefer emerge info attached, so thanks for not pasting it in. =)

Which X version last worked?

Hmm, I installed Gentoo on my laptop again (this time not with ~amd64) and everything works. I emerge synaptics 0.14 and it stopped working again. Today I read a post at the laptop's mailing list about the same problem that I was having and the solution seemes to be to use a older synaptics driver.
