Description Stolz 2005-02-14 15:48:40 UTC
I've emerged media-sound/emu10k1-0.20a-r7 because the module included with the kernel ignores the settings of /etc/emu10k1.conf
The problem: It seems the ebuild doesn't create a module because when I try to load the module it fails because modprobe can't locate it:

# modprobe -v emu10k1
install /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install emu10k1 && { /usr/bin/emu10k1-script restore; }
FATAL: Module emu10k1 not found.
FATAL: Error running install command for emu10k1

In fact,if I run
# equery f emu10k1
I can see that no files are created at /lib/modules

To see if the problem were in the restore script,I've edited /etc/modules.d/emu10k1 and commented out the 2 lines, the run modules-update, but I get the same error:
# modprobe emu10k1 -v
FATAL: Module emu10k1 not found.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge emu10k1
2.modprobe emu10k1

Actual Results:
Modprobe fails with the error:
FATAL: Module emu10k1 not found.

Expected Results:
load the emu10k1 kernel sound module

Yeah, it's there for the utilities, not the driver. Use alsa!
