Description Julien Ponge 2002-09-21 11:22:51 UTC
Hello,

I have a laptop using this video card. I never had a problem when it was
running a Mandrake or a Debian, but I was really suprised to find that the
driver not included in the Gentoo. I tried downloading the driver
(savage_drv.o) but it does not work at all. I checked all the file permissions
and so on, but it just don't work. I guess the driver source code should be
patched on the XFree source code. I have contacted the driver author, but he
never replied ...

Thank you very much.

I forgot to mention some useful things :
- GCC 3.2
- XFree 4.2.0-r12
- works with the vesa driver, but it *really* suck ...
- s3switch is available under Gentoo (used to switch from the lcd/vga/lcd+vga)
- the driver is officialy supported by S3

Try 4.2.1.
Comment 3 Julien Ponge 2002-09-21 13:40:20 UTC
Is it included in 4.2.1 ? I'm very busy and need to work with this laptop, so
I'm only willing to emerge it if there's the driver in it. By the way, is
there any risk with Xfree 4.2.1 ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Ok, I could find a working savage_drv.o file on another Gentoo box. So this
can be considered as fixed :-)

Anyway I can't see why it was not build on my laptop ...
