Apparently xfree used to be patched by you guys so that we didn't get this ugly background upon x starting up. Could you be super nice and patch xorg too? I know we can set -br in kde's Xserver file but this isn't nice to have to do all the time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start x 2. Observe Actual Results: I saw the ugly background :) Expected Results: Displayed a reasonable background colour like black for example.
I can't do anything about kde's stuff. '-br' is in startx.
I can only invite you to put your votes here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99126 (it seems someone had the same though at the same time :) usually we keep the defaults that kde sets.
This is not a KDE specific issue. GDM does exactly the same thing. I opened a bug report for this earlier today where I said that apparently xfree used to be patched so that the default was a black background. Would this not be the sensible route to take rather than starting to add the -br switch to all login managers? I may be wrong but I can't see anyone actually wanting the current ugly background for any reason. Maybe I'll post this issue to the xorg people themselves to see what they think.
Closing, the kde bug (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99126) has just been resolved.
