Expected Results:
Really obvious. Note that I'm not an expert using gentoo portage tools! So, this
could be my fault. Any workaround and suggestions appriciated!

Comment 1 Mr. Bones. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-02-08 15:33:40 UTC
your system looks pretty out of date to me. Can you do a emerge -v world and see if that helps please?
Comment 2 vladimir savic 2005-02-09 01:02:53 UTC
Strange... Here's what I get:

bash-2.05b# emerge -v world
Calculating world dependencies
*** Package in world file is not installed: sys-apps/fileutils

*** Package in world file is not installed: sys-apps/textutils

*** Package in world file is not installed: sys-apps/sh-utils
 ...done!

!!! Error: the gnome-extra/acme package conflicts with another package.
!!! both can't be installed on the same system together.
!!! Please use 'emerge --pretend' to determine blockers.

bash-2.05b# emerge -pv world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies
*** Package in world file is not installed: sys-apps/fileutils

*** Package in world file is not installed: sys-apps/textutils

*** Package in world file is not installed: sys-apps/sh-utils
 ...done!
[blocks B ] gnome-extra/acme (from pkg gnome-base/control-center-2.8.1-r1)
[blocks B ] x11-themes/gtk-engines-thinice (from pkg x11-themes/gnome-themes-2.8.1)
[blocks B ] sys-apps/modutils (from pkg sys-apps/module-init-tools-3.0-r2)
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/man-pages-2.01 [1.66] 1,632 kB
[ebuild U ] sys-libs/zlib-1.2.2 [1.1.4-r2] -build -debug 363 kB
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/grep-2.5.1-r6 [2.5.1-r1] -build -debug +nls -pcre -static (-uclibc) 667 kB
[ebuild N ] media-sound/alsa-headers-1.0.8_rc1 1,843 kB
...

First three listed seems to be a problem!

BTW, Is there any easier to make system more up-to-date? Report says that I have to download 400MB of sources which can be a problem using 56k connection!! Easy way might be some esential packages update. But, anyway I must solve that "blocked" error! Thanx in advance,
Vlada
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-02-09 04:11:37 UTC
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=2&chap=1#doc_chap4

That explains blockers pretty well.
Comment 4 vladimir savic 2005-02-09 10:31:32 UTC
Found the problem!!! It was all about my environmental variables: WANT_AUTOMAKE=2.5 and WANT_AUTOCONF=1.something :( You decide if this is still a bug.

Thanx again!

Vlada

Wow. You shouldn't have those in your environment globally. Marking invalid.
