Installer: current installer sets ARCH="ppc" in make.conf which overrides the correct ARCH="ppc-macos" which is set in the profile Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
As was discussed in #gentoo-osx, the correct ARCH for us is indeed 'ppc'. However, the bug is still valid - the installer should not provide a make.conf with ARCH specified - this should be specified in profiles. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If we are officially ARCH="ppc" this breaks the .a file fix done in Bug 58848 as it current checks for ARCH="ppc-macos" IIRC. Portage devs - Can we implement a different conditional there, perhaps one that covers all the darwin OSes ? i.e. USERLAND="darwin"
Mac OS X is indeed ARCH=ppc
