Description Mike Inman 2005-02-07 19:39:10 UTC
I have a relatively new gentoo system, athlon64 and nvidia graphics, started from stage 3 and from there built with this make.conf:

CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
AUTOCLEAN="yes"
USE="-gtk -gnome -bonobo X Xaw3d qt kde enablefinal aac arts alsa avi dvd dv dvdread divx4linux cdr cdb cdparanoia encode examples exif ftp gd gif jpeg hal java javascript jikes mad truetype mcal mime motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mpi nptl openal opengl oss pcntl pda pdflib png posix python quicktime sdl snmp soap sockets source spell ssl svga symlink tcpd tetex threads tiff unicode usb v4l vcd videos wmf xine xmlrpc xmms xpm xv xvid zlib"

I have installed most of KDE and many other packages (including most of Gnome to get things like eog), and they are all working well. Something in the lletters script seems to depend on this @SHELL@ being defined, and it isn't.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. build KDE system up from stage 3 with above make.conf
2. emerge lletters
3.

Actual Results:
creating config.h

emerge properly.

Mostly happy and successful installing a wide variety of stuff, but this one's
got me stuck.

your portage is pretty out of date ...

can you post the log when you run `emerge lletters >& log` ?

Log from emerge lletters >& log

Ah, well, now, I see the "root error" - which must have scrolled away before.

Must admit, I'm still clueless what to do about it.

About my version of Portage, I burned a universal install iso of 2004.3-r1
(which was the most recent available for amd64 a couple of weeks ago, don't
know about now), and did a "stage 3" install, which I assume keeps the portage
off the CD. I did run the package update on it last friday night.

Thanks for your help, lletters is the only game listed as "amd64 ready" that I
think my 3 year old will enjoy... Doom3 is working, but I don't think we want
him going there yet.

looks like you need to update world to me. Your system is definitely out of date.

reopen if you still have problems after updating your system to the latest stable versions. Thanks.
