Description Christian Schmidt 2021-09-02 13:26:49 UTC
For Gentoo users in Europe, it seems that gitweb.gentoo.org primarily resolves like this:

[~]>host sources.gentoo.org
sources.gentoo.org is an alias for gitweb.gentoo.org.
gitweb.gentoo.org is an alias for gitweb.geodns.gentoo.org.
gitweb.geodns.gentoo.org is an alias for gitweb.geodns-europe.gentoo.org.
gitweb.geodns-europe.gentoo.org has address 85.143.112.91
gitweb.geodns-europe.gentoo.org has IPv6 address 2001:470:1f14:104f::2

This address is located in Moscow, Russia, sponsored by the National Research Nuclear University:

inetnum: 85.143.112.0 - 85.143.115.255
netname: MEPHI
descr: National Research Nuclear University 'MEPhI'
descr: 31 Kashirskoe shosse
descr: 115409 Moscow
country: RU
org: ORG-MIFI1-RIPE
admin-c: MEFI-RIPE
tech-c: MEFI-RIPE
status: ASSIGNED PA

Due to the current geopolitical situation, this mirror might not be allowed from Western European networks. It seems that further mirrors are not available by name either, if they even exist.

As a resolution I think it would be good to have a list of manually selectable servers for this, to not have to resort to gitweb.geodns-americas.gentoo.org.

I can't tell if your objection is that your ISP will not route traffic to this host, or if the host (because its in Russia) will not route traffic to you.

One is a problem with your ISP (and I'd recommend finding a new one) and the latter (In reply to Christian Schmidt from comment #0)

This is the only mirror we have right now, sorry. Feel free to use the American mirror in the meantime if this one is not working for you.
