Are you sure? The package is masked for me on portage and I am using Gentoo amd64.

yes, i'm sure. you have to set ACCEPT_KEYWORDS for that package to ~amd64 to make it work. for example, you could just put the following line into your  /etc/portage/package.keywords:

net-www/liferea ~amd64
