It does not "need" wlan-ng, only if your card is a card supported by wlan-ng. There is a dropdown list with other drivers available. My card, for example works with the "Other"-selection.

What card do you have, please?

You are right, I have a
0000:02:03.0 Network controller: Intel Corp. PRO/Wireless 2200BG (rev 05)
so "Other" should work, isn't ?
