This looked like bug 80894, so I initially posted comments there. However, I've ruled out "distcc" and makes with more than one job, so I've opened a new bug here. Now that I look at the logs, it does look like an error in the source. Note that I did not set "ALSA_CARDS", so it is compiling everything. This might not happen if I were only compiling for a single sound card.

Good news!! Setting the "~x86" flag for alsa-headers and alsa-drivers resulted in a successful compile and install of "alsa-driver-1.0.8" (not a release candidate, a release, if I understand the nomenclature). It turns out I have "alsa-driver-1.0.8_rc1" built on another machine -- that one is running 2.6.10 and the one where it broke is running 2.4.25-r15. I'm not sure if this means anything, though. Please let me know if you want the log of the successful compile.

thanks for submitting. associated alsa 1.0.8 is now x86 stable. marking invalid.
