please have a look at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/technotes.xml?part=1&chap=3#doc_chap1 if you plan to open more keyword bugs :)
Comment 2 Simon Stelling (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-02-22 09:09:26 UTC
it fails here:

checking for libusb-config... /usr/bin/libusb-config
checking for usb_busses in -lusb... no
configure: error:
*** You need at least version 0.1.6 of the libusb library to build ptpcam.
*** Download and istall it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb/ or
*** use --disable-ptpcam option to build without ptpcam tool.

$ libusb-config --version
0.1.8
